How Much Does Wedding Photography Cost?

The cost of a wedding can be extremely high, or for DIYers or even courtroom weddings, extremely low. Photography tends to have those same extreme differences in pricing for weddings too. Let’s cover some of the costs of wedding photography and what you could be looking to spend for your big day!

Low Cost Wedding Photography.

If you’re looking for low-cost weddings, you’ll likely be finding an individual photographer who is just learning their craft. They will generally have lower-end equipment that isn’t going to be as reliable or capable. Often times, this will be someone with not much experience who is trying to build their portfolio. You can expect to spend less than $1,000 on a lower-cost photographer with little to no experience, a lack of consistency in editing, and equipment that isn’t meant for professional-level events.

Established Wedding Photographer Cost.

An established wedding photographer can still be someone who’s building their portfolio or brand consistency. The established photographer has likely moved past entry-level gear and has more experience under their belt in different scenarios. Sometimes photographers in this category aren’t prepared for low-light conditions or night-time shooting. In Dallas and Fort Worth Suburbs, you’ll often find photographers in this grouping to be around $1,500 to $3,500 in cost.

Cost of a Professional Wedding Photographer.

Professional Wedding Photographers are able to draw out a beautiful story through pictures. They have consistency in their editing even across poor lighting conditions. Their photography gear is reliable, built for creative uses, and capable of capturing the right moments on time. They are able to work with their clients to draw out emotion while naturally capturing photos as they come. These photographers are desirable due to their editing style and ability to pose or take candid shots without extensive effort. These photographers in North Texas often range from $4,000 to $6,500 or even up to $25,000 (or more… 🤯). Again, there are far too many variables to be able to adequately express every level of photographer, geographic/demographic needs, client needs, etc. in one post, but these are some of the costs you can expect on average in this area.

Other Photographer Cost Variables.

Some things that can affect the cost of a photographer are:

  • The desirability of the photographer: a photographer that has a sought-after style or look that lasts across generations will generally cost more due to the nature of the effort put in and the desirability of their photos.

  • Availability of the photographer: if the photographer you desire has minimal open availability that will increase the cost.

  • Lifestyle: maintaining a healthy work-to-life balance is a conversation people have across all job fields. It’s common to find a photographer who has family and values their time together on top of living a healthy life to cost more since they respect their own needs as well as the needs of their clients.

  • Geographic location and demographic of the area: located in a large city or metroplex? You’ll be spending more than a couple would in more rural or even suburban areas.
